It is back to school season, with many parents rejoicing and children regretting. While summer may have been carefree for many children and youth, going back to school may be a problem emotionally for some. Here are some issues to keep in mind in the coming months.

While this is not directly a behavioral health question, it is the third time this week an HPV question has come up so it is important to address.  Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is actually a common family of viruses and most people will get an HPV infection at some point in their life.

This week I was asked, “Is menopause making me crazy?” Yes, I used the “C” word, because that was the question, but also because of the context.  The question wasn’t asked by a person with mental illness, which I would never refer to as “crazy”. It was posed by a woman who was struggling to understand all of the symptoms she was going through, and used a term that many can relate to.

It’s a week after the 2016 U.S. presidential election and people’s responses run the gamut from joy and celebration, to depression and despair. For those who don’t get it, this was not a usual election cycle. Hillary Clinton’s loss wasn’t simply the loss of the Democratic Party’s candidate.

A recent question came from the mother of a child who was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. She was confused because she thought that was related to soldiers in war situations. Her child was too young to be a soldier and had never been in a combat zone.
